Individualizing Instruction in Self-Regulated Learning – Deborah L. Butler
This academic article begins with a poignant description of how the development of SRL impacts individual students’ functioning within high school settings. Dr. Butler then provides readers with an overview of SRL theory and description of Strategic Content Learning – a framework for fostering students’ development of SRL within individual, small group and whole class settings. Within this model teachers assist students in defining and articulating classroom tasks, developing and selecting strategies to engage in tasks, and self-monitoring their engagement and effective implementation of strategies. While focused on supporting SRL within high school settings, the information in this article is applicable to all educational contexts.
