In the News: 1 in 5 Gay Teen Boys Has Used Steroids, Study Shows

Recent research shows that gay and bisexual teen boys use illicit steroids at six times the rate of their straight male peers. Reasons for this disparity are unclear; however, the study authors hypothesize that gay and bisexual teen boys may feel more pressure to achieve an “ideal” male physique, or they might think bulking-up will help them fend off bullying. This article describes this research (the first of its kind) as well as signs and side-effects of steroid use.
